Again with the Dinosaurs

Ok. so i searched the internet and found some very interesting information on dinosaurs. just thought i would put one of the websites that i was reading http://www.answersingenesis.org/docs/2.asp

and of course there are a ton of sites supporting the creation and a ton supporting evolution. i guess it really all goes back to whether or not you believe the bible to be God inspired truth. see Job 40:15-19 and see what you think.

and i am going to buy one of the kid books so that my kids can know the truth-that God created all the animals, including dinosaurs, and also people--all in 6 days. http://www.amazon.com/Great-Dinosaur-Mystery-Bible/dp/0890511144/sr=8-4/qid=1172105018/ref=sr_1_4/103-7239609-8974236?ie=UTF8&s=books

Happy reading!

Sweet Sunshine and Million Year Old Dinosaurs

I have made it back up to Ocala. After church on Sunday the kids and i went to the horse show to watch gavin ride in the grand prix on his horse Odie. It was very exciting--one guy flew off his horse and crashed into one of the standards (the sides of the jump that hold the poles in place) and knocked the whole thing over! Luckily it wasn't Gavin! He did pretty well however and only had 8 faults, very good since Odie hasn't been in a grand prix in a long time. So we were happy. Gavin has been extremely busy, just like any other horse show. He has the day "off" today so he slept until 11:00 then he and the kids and his mom went over to the show to check up on things.

so here i am ALL BY MYSELF. all i can say is YEAH!

and here are my ramblings for the day:
on the way up here from Marco, we stopped in Naples at a Botanical Garden--this park was having its grand opening of a dinosaur feature. clearly walking around and looking at plants is just too boring so they had to put in some dinosaurs to attract the young families...(i'm telling you, it's geezer village down here!)

So here we are walking all over this park looking at models of dinosaurs who lived 100 million years ago. I couldn't help but laugh--do people really believe this?? Now I am absolutely NOT an expert on the age of the earth, but i'm pretty confident that it isn't a million years old. Can someone help me out here??? Kids LOVE dinosaurs and I don't really get it but still, we want to help our kids find out about things they are interested in. Does anyone know of a kids book about dinosaurs that is written from the Christian perspective? I would love to read the history of the dinosaur so that i can try to explain it to my kids, but I don't even know it and would guess that it is really difficult information to come by. I'll check on the internet and get back to you.

Oh, and by the way, the dinosaurs didn't help, the kids were still bored... :)

Funeral Ramblings

I attended the funeral of my aunt's mom, DD, who has been in my life from the beginning. I wanted to share some of the thoughts that were given by my cousin's husband Kevin (sorry for stealing your stuff!)

Genesis 25:8 Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, an old man and full of years and he was gathered to his people.

Now his ripe old age was 175 and of course i do NOT hope to live quite that long. but whatever my age when God calls me, i do want be able to say that my years were GOOD and FULL. This really hit me because i feel like lately i'm just trying to get through each day and it seems that when Gavin asks me about my day i usually respond "eh, it was okay". but wouldn't it be great if we could end each day saying "wow, what a GOOD day i had" or "my day was FULL" (meaning that i did important or significant things)????

So then the next logical question is how do i go from having hum drum kind of days to having days that i feel are worth wild and important-GOOD and FULL?? AND surprise, surprise God's word has some practical and sometimes even funny ways that we can aim for. Check these out:

Phil 2:14 Do all things without arguing or complaining...

And here's a special one that I can put to use: A quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping. Prov. 19:13 This is so important that it is repeated AGAIN in Proverbs 27:15. In fact, it goes on to say that it is better to live on a corner of the roof or in a desert then with a quarrelsome wife (Prov. 21:9; 25:24; 21:19) The fact that this is mentioned FIVE times should tell us women something...

Those are just two examples of what God says, but there are millions more. I would love to hear some of your favorite passages about good living.

So back to Genesis, it says that Abraham was gathered to his people. Kevin mentioned that DD was probably in heaven talking to the mother of their preacher Jimmy, who had also just died. Can you picture that? Who would you like to visit with in heaven? I can't wait to go have a chat with my grandma, my dad's mom. She was one of those people who was so sarcastic and deadpan all the time. I didn't fully appreciate her humor when i was little, but now when i think about her i always crack up. i'll have to put up a pic of her that i have where she is making apple pies with her twin. they are standing there with red bandanas tied in their hair and grandma is holding up her rolling pin like she is about to knock me in the head with it!

as an aside, i was telling josh about DD going to heaven and he was asking me questions about it. i told him that God's house has many rooms (John 14:1) the gates are made of pearls and the streets of gold (Rev. 21 or 22). Josh wants to know "does it have a pool?". i told him it probably does!

one more thought before my 30 min. are up. it is motivating for me to read the way that i'm supposed to act, but realize too that every day it is a challenge to do good. so i give you the following verse:

Gal 6:9-10 Let us not grow weary while doing good for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

there is one more that talks about making the most of every opportunity but i can't remember where it is right now! i'll get back to you on that.

Gotta go, my time is up.

oh, i'll be going to Ocala tomorrow and i can use my computer whenever i want to!!! yeah!

Trapped at the Tire Store

Something i thought of while trying to get from Ocala to Marco last Thursday. When we TRIED to leave after breakfast my SMART truck told me that my tire pressure was low. Gavin told me to go to the Tire Store to get it checked out. Well, two new tires, 12 new lugnuts, a large charge on my credit card and 2 hours later (after sitting in the waiting room with 3 kids and nextdoor to Dunkin' Donguts i might add) i was finally on the road. During the wait, i realized that essentially i was trapped at that tire store. I did try to walk s0mewhere with the kids, but route 200 is like the indy racetrack and the only place to go was cracker barrel (we played checkers on the front porch and played with the toys in the lobby) or the Best Western (and boy was i ready for a nap at that point). So anyway, it occurred to me that without my carseats, i couldn't even have gavin come and pick us up! Doesn't that just seem wrong??? I guess in NY cabs you don't have to use carseats?? Isn't that illegal or something? So needless to say i was totally ready to get out of there by 1:15 when they released us...and that is really how i felt because the owner of the store was the grim reaper of the automotive industry. "you really need to have your wheels aligned or you might drive right off the road and to your death!" Being a woman at any kind of car dealership or repair place is annoying! So thankfully, after trying to get out of Ocala at 10 we made it to marco island around 6:30. what a long day!! but i have to say, i'm getting to be a pro at this.

Geezer Town

Hello all. only a short post today because i only have 5 minutes. don't have my laptop in marco and the only thing to do down here is go to McDs, go to the grocery store and use the internet. all of these things i have tried to do today. i had to sign up for the computer at the library this morning, a half hour time slot at 1:30. it is now 1:57... it always amazes me how packed this island is. i guess i will have to come every morning and sign up. anyway, this does not leave me very much time to tell you all the things that i wanted to. so i'll have to get back to you at the end of the week when i head back up to ocala for another week. gavin's mom is coming. then gavin's dad. i'm trying to make plans to go to disney but it looks as if i might be too late to get a room there. 1:59.

so i'll let you know later about my funeral ramblings, my messed up tires, and something else that i can't remember.

someone is waiting, standing right behind me. be glad for your own computer!

2:00 gotta go

Louise Koontz

I forgot to say that I was inspired to do this blog thing by my friend Louise Koontz. She and her family (husband Marty and 4 boys!) are missionaries in Togo, West Africa. I'll get her blog-type site for you later because you really need to read it.

Driving and more Driving

just a quick note. i went to Jax yesterday for the funeral--i have some things to say about that, but i'll have to come back to it later. we (my parents and i, gavin stayed in ocala with the kids) came back last night. today we just went to target and then to the pool. it was about 70 degrees so it was very nice. still no donuts but need to work on getting off the sweet tea now. ran 4 miles in 43:20 then walked/ran another .75 and finished at 55 minutes. had a cesar salad and corn bread at boston market--we really need one of these in warrenton. the kids had REAL turkey and corn--the healthiest meal that have had thus far. when we get to my parents house i will be serving all veges and fruits--no mac and cheese or chicken nuggets the entire week! we leave in the morning to travel 4.5 hours to marco island in SW FL. will most likely be in the mid 80s. so sorry for you folks in VA who got snow today.

See you in Sunny and warm Marco--stay tuned to see what living with my Dad is like, complete with discourse on how to properly dispose of your trash (hee hee)

Finally Made It

Here it is Monday, Feb. 5 and we are finally in Ocala. We had fair weather on the way down on Thursday. Snowed for a while but it didn't get icy, just had a hard time seeing for a while. then rain the rest of the way. spent the night in NC and ate Lucas' pizza from domino's--ham and about 10 pounds of pineapple...so we went to bed a bit hungry.
We made it to jacksonville friday evening and went straight to the horse show to see Gavin. it had been about 2 weeks since he left so the kids were really excited to see him. Then we were invited for steak dinner at my uncle's house so we and my cousin's family went there. and what a blessing it was that we went because my aunt's mother passed away the very next day. I have known "DD" my whole life and i'm so glad that i was able to see her on Friday. If only i had known that it was the last time. she had been having dialysis for a long time and her body finally gave up on her. she celebrated her 90th birthday this past summer but to me she was always the same age! i remember having a snow day in elementary school and going to work with my dad at Churchill Apartments. she lived there and i spent the whole day playing cards with her. in fact, she gave me a book on how to play bridge a few months ago-she loved that.
So we got to Ocala today and i'm heading back up to JAX for the funeral tomorrow. Gavin is going to stay in Ocala with the boys. I hope he is alive when i get back. They have been a MAJOR handful the past few days. always on this trip it is a struggle to keep them in line--routine is so key and we just don't have one at all. plus lots of TV and lots of junky and fastfood equal MONSTERS. i lost my temper today and made everyone take a nap so i could calm down. but it didn't really help as they were crazy at dinner and then we had to go to the mall of all places so that i could buy an outfit to wear to the funeral (tropical pants and sandles-probably not appropriate!).
on another note, i was able to run on the treadmill on saturday night-6 miles in 68 minutes. then i rode the bike for 30 minutes on sunday night during the superbowl. gavin was in the room with the kids (they were watching veggie tales on the computer).
and so far i have eaten at mcdonald's EVERY DAY. but i promise i will NOT eat any donuts from Publix--even though at this point i could probably put away two dozen in no time!
well, that is all for now. oh, and by the way, it is cold here. not as bad as home, but in the 50s with dark skies most of the time. we plan on leaving for my parents' house on thursday so i hope it will be much warmer there!
bye now! Terri and the crazy people that are with me.
